Whether you are a first year analyst or a 20 year industry veteran, you have something of value to share. And it is in that sharing that individuals, organizations, and entire industries move forward.
“The miracle is this – the more we share, the more we have.” ― Leonard Nimoy
I understand that knowledge sharing might be a foreign concept. We have been taught to protect our ideas. We work for organizations that frequently make use of legal documents to ensure that no one talks about their ideas. We believe it is our ideas that makes us valuable.
The reality is, the more we hoard our ideas, our knowledge, the less capable we become.
In the digital analytics community, we have many different platforms in which we can share our ideas from speaking at conferences to publishing online through established company or personal blogs. Yet for some, those may seem like daunting barriers to overcome to share their knowledge, so we must make it easier for everyone to participate.
LinkedIn Groups
There are countless analytics-focused groups available on LinkedIn for members to join. These are great places to share original content. If the content you want to share is more specific to a vendor, you may want to look for a vendor specific group like the ‘Adobe Marketing Cloud User Group‘ or if you are looking to share more general analytics techniques, a group like ‘Web Analytics Professionals‘ might be a good place to start.
DAA Digital Analytics Cookbook
The Digital Analytics Association offers a very exclusive benefit for their members in the form of the DAA Digital Analytics Cookbook. The Cookbook offers easy to follow instructions created by highly respected, industry luminaries.
Analytics Playbook
Analytics Playbook is an open source repository for analytical techniques that allows anyone to freely contribute and consume bitesized nuggets of information that are focused on solving specific data related challenges.
NOTE: 33 Sticks is an active contributor to this open source project.
This is just a small sampling of the platforms available for you to share your knowledge. The platform you choose to share on is not the important thing, actually taking action to share is.
If you are not openly sharing your knowledge, especially within your own organizations, I suggest your start asking the question ‘why?’
